Berman Obaldia

Vice President of Corporate & Government Affairs

Berman Obaldia began working at the Chamber on August 15th, 2017. He is serving as Vice President of Corporate & Government Affairs.

Berman brings more than two decades of government affairs experience, including stints in the California State Legislature and state government. Berman also has a long history as a political strategist working state and local issues on behalf of major industry interests in Sacramento.

Beginning in 1992, Berman worked as Chief of Staff for Assemblymember Joe Bacca. In this capacity, Berman oversaw the Assemblymember’s legislative package and served as the office spokesman. Berman joined UST Public Affairs in 1995 where he managed the company’s political action committee and represented the company’s interests between state and regional trade associations.

Six years later, Berman went to the Distilled Spirits Council of the United States to serve as their Vice President of Government Affairs in California. In this role, Berman worked to defend the spirits industry through the defeat of numerous legislative and regulatory measures. In 2007, Berman became the Director of West Coast Government Affairs at the Alliance of Automobile Manufacturers where he worked alongside the oil and gas industry and other stakeholders on a number of key energy and climate issues.

In 2009, Berman was hired by CALSTRS, California’s largest teachers’ pension fund in the United States. to serve as their Director of Government Affairs and Program Analysis. In that capacity, he planned and executed state and federal legislative programs and organized the support of active and retired teachers to successfully support CALSTRS’ advocacy goals.

Berman left CALSTRS in 2011 to form his own government affairs and business development firm, BFO & Associates where he assisted a wide range of clients. Berman holds a Masters of Public Administration from Golden Gate University and graduated from California State University, Sacramento with a Bachelors of Arts in Political Science.
