Ken Cooley
Select Committee on Asia/California Trade and Investment Promotion

Ken and his wife Sydney have been married for 40 years and have made the east Sacramento County community of Rancho Cordova their home since 1977. Both his sons live there with their wives and children, with grandchild number four on the way in early 2016. Ken is a licensed attorney who graduated from McGeorge School of Law in 1984 and a 1977 graduate of U.C. Berkeley.

Mr. Cooley was elected to the California State Assembly in November, 2012 after serving ten years as a founding Councilman of Rancho Cordova and two terms as Mayor. In the State Assembly, Ken has distinguished himself as a collaborative leader, able to foster collegiality around moving big policy issues through the process and working toward re-establishing a more collegial tone for the whole institution.

Richard Pan
Chair Senate Select Committee on Asian Pacific Islander Affairs

Dr. Richard Pan is a pediatrician, former UC Davis educator, and State Senator proudly representing Sacramento, West Sacramento, Elk Grove and unincorporated areas of Sacramento County. He is Chair of the Senate Committee on Public Employment and Retirement and the Senate Select Committee on Children with Special Needs, and he also serves on the Senate Committees on Agriculture, Budget and Fiscal Review, Education, and Health. Dr. Pan continues to practice pediatrics at WellSpace Health in Oak Park.

First elected to the State Assembly in 2010, Dr. Pan strives to keep our communities safe and healthy. When local governments planned to close fire stations during the recession, Dr. Pan authored legislation to bring over $100 million in federal funds for fire departments including $6 million for the Sacramento region. He partnered with law enforcement and local businesses to establish a statewide database to catch thieves attempting to sell stolen property to pawnshops, and he authored a law to allow campus police to use body cameras.

Vince currently serves as vice president for University Advancement at California State University, Sacramento. In this capacity, he oversees fund development, advancement communications and stewardship, and alumni relations. He was appointed to the position after working as associate vice president for development. As vice president for University Advancement, he also serves an executive officer for The University Foundation at Sacramento State.

Darrell Steinberg

Darrell Steinberg is one of Sacramento’s most accomplished public servants, serving the Sacramento community for over 20 years.

As a young man, Steinberg bought his first home in Tahoe Park, where he and his wife Julie started their family. When Tahoe Park was having trouble with gangs, the neighborhood began to organize and formed the Tahoe Park Neighborhood Association, electing Darrell Steinberg as its first President.

Congressman Ami Bera, M.D., represents California’s 7th Congressional District in the U.S. House of Representatives and resides in Elk Grove with his wife and daughter. Prior to serving in Congress, Dr. Bera served as the Chief Medical Officer for Sacramento County, and practiced medicine for more than 20 years. Congressman Bera serves on the prestigious House Foreign Affairs Committee and the Committee on Science, Space, and Technology where his top priorities are creating jobs and strengthening America’s national security.

James Golsen is the Executive Director for Asia at the International Trade Administration, U.S. Department of Commerce. Previously, Mr. Golsen was the first Senior Commercial Officer at the U.S. Embassy in Myanmar/Burma. He opened the office in August, 2014 and has worked with hundreds of US companies to explore the Myanmar market. In addition, Mr. Golsen held positions with the U.S. Commercial Service in India as the Principal Commercial Officer for South India, with the U.S. Embassy in Bangkok, Thailand, the U.S. Consulate in Shanghai, China and Memphis, TN at the U.S. Export Assistance Center and as the Commercial Service Partnership Manager at FedEx World Headquarters. Before joining the U.S. Commercial Service, he worked at the U.S. Chamber of Commerce with a focus on China.

Dr. Jaana Remes is an economist and a partner at the McKinsey Global Institute (MGI), McKinsey & Company’s business and economics research arm, based in San Francisco.
Since 2003, Jaana has led MGI’s research on productivity, urbanization, competitiveness, and growth. Her most recent research looks at global consumer groups that are shaping global demand, as well as global growth prospects in an era of demographic decline. Jaana leads MGI’s Urban World research series that includes shifting economic power of cities, the rising urban consuming class, and mapping of the global company landscape; as well as the patterns of urban growth and renewal across the Americas.

Candice Park joined the California Asian Pacific Chamber of Commerce (CAPCC) as Korea Direct Program Manager in September 2016 to develop and manage the Korea Direct Program, a 2016 Market Development Cooperator Program (MDCP) between CAPCC and the International Trade Administration (ITA) under the U.S. Department of Commerce with the focus on increasing California processed food and beverage exports to South Korea.

Candice has in-depth experience and knowledge in planning and coordinating inbound and outbound local governmental economic cooperative functions for various organizations in South Korea and California as well as managing numerous documentation translation and localization projects for various companies.

Ryosuke (Kim) Kimura moved to San Francisco from Tokyo, Japan. He studied marketing at the University of North Alabama, and then worked as a consultant at PricewaterhouseCoopers specializing in international development. Kim joined JINS in 2013 and took a lead role in opening 4 stores in California. With his passion in community development, he helped launch “Cases for Causes” where JINS partners with local NPOs and design eyewear cases inspired by their causes.

Daniel Moznett is the Director of Marketing & Export Sales at Grower Direct Marketing, LLC.  Daniel handles all of the Marketing, advertising cooperative promotions and a significant portion of the export portfolio for one of the oldest fresh produce growers in California.
Prior to this role Daniel spent more than 15 award-winning years producing syndicated cooking shows for local network affiliates, PBS and online content for brand giants such as Frito Lay, Pepsico, Lexus and many more. Daniel has spent time throughout the Pacific Rim learning how to execute marketing strategy, develop new customers and increase export transactions for globally sourced agricultural products.
He is a resident of Stockton, California where he lives with his wife and three children.  He enjoys spending time in the community and sits on the Board of Directors for the local Habitat for Humanity.

He serves as a founding member – executive secretary for the California Inland Empire District Export Council, an Inland regional advisory group of business leaders that are appointed by the U.S. Secretary of Commerce.

Trade Commissioner, Philippine Trade and Investment Center

Nicanor S. Bautista assumed the post of Trade Commissioner for the Philippine Trade and Investment Center in San Francisco on July 3, 2015. Before coming to the Bay Area, Mr. Bautista was the Department of Trade and Industry Commercial Counselor in Korea from July 2011 to February 2015. This was his second posting to Korea where he earlier served as Trade Representative from June 2000 to November 2004. Mr. Bautista was a member of the Executive Board of the ASEAN-Korea Center in Seoul where he actively promoted trade and investment cooperation between the Philippines, Korea and other ASEAN
countries.

Chief Executive Director of Japanese External Trade Organization (JETRO)

Yoshi TOJO was appointed to the Chief Executive Director of JETRO San Francisco in August 2014, responsible for promoting Cross-Pacific business development and technology commercialization.  Yoshi has long been engaged in R&D management and technology startup acceleration, with his wide-ranging experiences in economic analysis and innovation promotion at the Government of Japan (NEDO, METI, and MOFA), the Organization for Economic Cooperation and Development (OECD), and Kyoto University.
