Joanne C. Wang is the Director- Energy Risk Management for San Diego Gas & Electric Company, a subsidiary of Sempra Energy. Sempra Energy, based in San Diego, is a Fortune 500 energy services holding company with 2015 revenues of more than $10 billion. With nearly 17,000 employees worldwide, the Sempra Energy companies develop energy infrastructure, operate utilities and provide related services to more than 32 million consumers worldwide. Joanne’s current responsibilities include managing commodity market and credit risks for multi-billion dollar energy procurement portfolio, conducting risk and quantitative analysis and ensuring regulatory and policy compliance. She also initiated and developed enterprise risk management program for Sempra utilities to establish a holistic approach to address all key risks.
Prior to her current position, Joanne held various finance, research and engineering positions at Sempra, Lehman Brothers, Calyon and Exelon with increasing levels of responsibility.
Joanne is passionate about giving back to the communities. She has served on the Board of the Asian Business Association – San Diego, the Executive Leadership Team for the Go Red for Women 2012 movement and Co-Chair of Circle of Red 2011 for the American Heart Association. She volunteered to help raise fund for local YMCA youth outreach programs. She was an anchorwoman for a Chinese community TV station in Chicago, and a city ambassador for WorldCup ’94. She is the honoree of 2012 YWCA Tribute to Women and Industry (TWIN) awards and recipient of congressional recognition.
Joanne has a Ph. D in Electrical Engineering from the Illinois Institute of Technology, a MBA degree from Northwestern / Kellogg Business School and a master and a bachelor degree in Electrical Engineering from Qinghua University, Beijing, China.
